I'm really excited about doing this series as I'm a big believer in how our thoughts and words affect our attitude and mood.... remember one of my favourite quotes 'Your word is your wand'? (PS you can still download this as a free printable).
With meditations voiced by Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra, you'll discover the keys to understanding who you are today, and open the door to who you want to become by tapping into the innate power of your beliefs. Excited?
Always wanted to try meditation but don't know where to start?
For anyone who is new to meditation, the Oprah and Deepak series is a great place to start. At 20 minutes per session you can fit this into your day either first thing in the morning or in the evening. Miss a day? Not a problem as each meditation is held for up to 5 days after so you have time to catch up. Deepak guides the meditation at the beginning and starts with a centering thought and mantra. These are great to focus on when your mind starts to wander.
There's also a voluntary journal section as the end of each meditation which asks reflective questions for you to journal in for those that want to maximise their meditation experience.
My tips for getting the most out of your meditation experience
- Choose a regular time of day that you can commit to for 20 minutes undisturbed
- Find a calm place where you feel comfortable and relaxed
- Relax and enjoy the experience. Try not to put any pressure on yourself to 'clear your thoughts' etc
Still not sure if meditation is for you?
Firstly, I'd start by saying 'what have you got to lose?' Why not try the series for a couple of days - it's free after all and if it's not your thing at least you've given it a try. Or why not enlist a friend to join you. Heidi and I usually do the series together and I also get my sister along as well. It gives you an extra committment (kinda like a group sport) plus you can chat about it over afterwards. You never know, you might surprise yourself! You can try a sample meditation so you get a feel for what to expect.
One lasting thought by Deepak to consider if you're still unsure
"Meditation takes you to a level of awareness which is beyond the mind. So even though some people say, “You know I never find that my meditations quiet my noisy mind. I have too many thoughts.” The fact is, in every meditation there are little gaps where your awareness goes to a level which is beyond the mind because you are connected to core consciousness. At that level you kind of wash off some of the conditioning. So the more people practice meditation, the more they realize that they don’t have to be bound by the hypnosis of social conditioning by society, by media, advertising and economics, history, culture and so on"
That's enough incentive for me to give it a go!
I hope you come along the journey with us.
Love & Bliss xx
