Here's Kelsey’s story....
What did your 'old' life look like? Our old life was face-paced. For 16 years, I produced daytime television for the TV shows Another World, As the World Turns and The Guiding Light, as well as several reality shows and tv/digital pilots. When my husband and I had children, we were frustrated by our inability to be with them as much as we wanted. Two hours of commuting if everything went perfect. Meeting the nanny in the morning and hoping to get home in time to put the kids to bed. The day was rushed and stressful, fitting it all in.
Was there a single event or trigger that made you act? What motivated you to change? My father was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer when our first son was just 3 months old. My son and I (and my husband when he could) travelled to Colorado every two weeks to spend as much time with him as we could. He passed away three months later. We had waited too long, going home would never be the same but we knew that we needed to make a change. It took the birth of our second son and three more years to find a job in Colorado and we finally took the plunge. Having children and living for another being really opened our eyes. I wanted to be the one raising my kids, not paying someone to do it during the week.
What does your life look like now? How is it different? Life is still nutty but in a great way. The kids are in school now so we rush around in the morning and then go to work. I get to pick them up from school and spend the afternoons with them and we all have dinner together. When the boys go to bed, I get to work on Clean Pits, making deodorant, shipping order and running the business. My husband has a property inspection business so he is around a lot more than he used to be.
I still work at the University and then run my company at night or in the early morning. I have always been a maker and have dreamed of my own business, so Clean Pits provides a creative outlet and the excitement of growing a company has been really cool. My hope is to run Clean Pits full time someday.
We now get to live life as a family and that is the biggest change.
