My beautiful business partner has welcomed into the world a gorgeous new addition to her family. Jack Mourits was born at home last Monday 18th January, right on time with all his loving family around him and as Michelle puts it her dream water birth!
As I think about Michelle living this different life over in The Netherlands, it got me thinking how much her tribe has changed. Her Australian tribe (mum and dad) went over for the birth to help with her younger son, Max and to share this beautiful time together, but she has a new tribe that will help raise her sons. Her husband and his siblings will influence this baby more than she realises.
I too have a new tribe in Northern NSW, who for the last 9 years is helping my husband and I raise our children. This is becoming more apparent as our kids are getting older and are influenced by all around us. The older siblings of our friends help pull them in line and show kindness, the dads lend a hand when mine is often working away, the mums look out for each child's safety and offer advice when they may need someone other than their parents to talk to. In a traditional setting of tribes, the elders, grandparents, aunts and uncles would have done this role. But as Shell and I have moved away from our families we need to expand our tribe of great people that will have a positive impact on our children.
My mother used to always say "It takes a village to raise a child", only now do I really know what she meant. So thank you to my village for helping to have such a positive influence on my children and to little Jack 'welcome to the world'....I can't wait to meet you! xxx
