I recently saw this TedTalk by Social psychologist and Harvard associate professor Amy Cuddy who explains that adopting simple ‘power poses’ can not only make you appear confident to others but can change your physiology so you become more confident. How cool is that?
So what’s the 2 minute secret?
It’s as simple as adopting one of the power poses Amy talks about. My favourite is the ‘Wonder woman’ – standing straight, legs slight apart, hands on hips and holding the pose for 2 minutes.
I’m new to this trick but when I told Heidi about it she told me she used it in a previous job in Sales. Before heading into a sales meeting with a client she’d adopt the pose for 2 minutes and believe she’d make the sale. She says it really does work.
My personal confidence trick is to ask my self two questions ‘what have I got to lose? And ‘Will I regret it if I don’t do it?’ but I’m definitely going to give power posing a go.
